Synopsis

Welcome to Star Wars: After the Sequels! This project is a set of fan films and TV shorts set in a galaxy far, far away that pick up right at the end of The Rise of Skywalker and continues the Skywalker Saga for the next generation.

We are a team of video game designers and developers dipping our feet into the world of filmmaking, and what better place to start than in the ruins of Exegol.

Here, you will find everything to keep you in the know on all things After the Sequels – information on the films and series, behind-the-scenes content, discussions on Star Wars, and most of all, our love for this iconic and timeless franchise.

Our production

Maria Espino is a massive Star Wars fan. She founded her TLP Gaming community back in 1997 and has turned it into a video game development company since 2006. Now she is expanding once again, but this time into filmmaking within her favorite film franchise.

TLP Gaming is developing and producing a trilogy that continues the Skywalker Saga right after the events of Episode 9 that expand Ben Solo’s quest for redemption. We are also creating a TV series of shorts that fill in the gaps between the films titled, Star Wars: In Between.

We are made up of an utterly inspiring team of character artists, environmental artists, animators, sound designers, visual editors, and musical composers that are all masters of their fields and truly dedicated fans of this franchise.

Our cast of over 40 actors came from nearly 1000+ submissions from the casting calls. We wanted to form a group of actors that exhibit a true passion for Star Wars. Not only did we want those who love the latest films, but also those who do not. We wanted to give our cast a chance to reimagine these characters.

Timeline

Our story is a continuation of the Skywalker Saga which was touted to have ended with The Rise of Skywalker, but we strongly believe there really cannot be a Star Wars without the Skywalkers. Let’s walk through memory lane.

Star Wars: The Phantom Menace (Episode I)

During The Phantom Menace in 32 BBY, Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and his Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi head out as ambassadors for the planet of Naboo to end the blockade by the Trade Federation. There they meet Jar Jar Binks, a Gungan, who accompanies them to the capital where they rescue the Nabooian Queen and escape with the help of R2-D2.

The group ends up on Tatooine with R2-D2 after experiencing a mechanical failure on the ship. There Queen Padme Amidala, disguised as her handmaiden, meets a young Anakin Skywalker. They plan for him to enter a pod race to win his freedom as well as the parts the Jedi need for their ship. Anakin wins the race and the group leaves for Coruscant, after finding out that the Sith had returned when confronted by Darth Maul.

On Coruscant, Qui-Gon tries to convince the council to let him take on Anakin to train him as a Jedi, but they refuse. The Queen decides to return to Naboo to help her people and the team goes alongside her. There, Padme reveals herself as the true queen to ask for help from the Gungans against the Trade Federation. A large fight occurs which Anakin leads to victory when he takes control of a starfighter.

At the same time, the two Jedi fight against Darth Maul. Darth Maul overpowers Qui-Gon Jinn, killing him. Enraged at the death of his master, Obi-Wan ends up slicing Maul in half, believing him dead. Obi-Wan ends up convincing the council to let him train Anakin as his first Padawan, fulfilling the promise he made to his master.

Star Wars: Attack of the Clones (Episode II)

In 22 BBY during the events of the Attack of The Clones, Padme is now a senator and an assassination attempt on her life has taken place. As a result, Anakin and Obi-Wan are assigned to protect her by the Jedi Council. When the assassin makes another attempt on her life, the Council assigns Obi-Wan to track down the source of the attack. Meanwhile, Anakin is tasked with the protection of Padme as they travel back to Naboo.

While there, Anakin falls for Padme even though it goes against the Jedi way. Anakin struggles with his desire to be a Jedi and his desire to be with Padme. At the same time, Obi-Wan travels to Kamino to further his investigation of a secret Clone Army that is being produced at the request of old Jedi Master Sifo-Dyas. There, he discovers that a bounty hunter named Jango Fett is the source for the genetic material of the entire clone army.

Jango and Obi-Wan battle it out, and Obi-wan ends up placing a tracking beacon on Fett’s ship. After a spaceship duel with Fett, in which Obi-Wan cleverly escapes, he tracks Fett to the planet of Geonosis. Anakin becomes worried about his mother through his dreams and he and Padme venture to Tatooine. There he discovers that his mother had been kidnapped by Tusken Raiders and he vows to find her. Anakin ends up being too late and his mother dies in his arms. Anakin slaughters the entire village, killing the men, women, and children.

On Geonosis, Obi-Wan discovers that Count Dooku and the separatist leaders were behind the assassination attempt. Padme and Anakin arrive on Geonosis but are captured by Dooku. While in the Geonosis Arena, Anakin and Padme confess their love for each other. They reunite with Obi-Wan Kenobi to defend themselves against their foes when Mace Windu and other Jedi Masters come to their aid, however they are overpowered by Dooku’s Droid Army.

Moments later, Master Yoda arrives, backed by their new Clone Army, to help fight and rescue the Jedi. Later, Anakin and Obi-Wan are in a fight with Dooku, and Anakin’s arm gets cut off. Master Yoda engages in an epic lightsaber duel with his former Padawan, but Dooku ends up getting away. Anakin receives a robotic implant to replace his lost arm.

After a few months of healing, Anakin and Padme travel back to Naboo, where they are married in secret.

Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith (Episode III)

Things take a dark turn in Revenge of the Sith in 19 BBY when Anakin and Obi-Wan are sent to rescue Chancellor Palpatine three years into the Clone Wars. Separated from his master, Anakin is manipulated by the Chancellor to decapitate Count Dooku. The two reunite with Obi-wan Kenobi and escape General Grievous and return to Coruscant.

Anakin is reunited with Padme, who tells him she is pregnant. Anakin has terrible nightmares about Padme dying in childbirth. The Jedi Council’s request to spy on Chancellor Palpatine infuriates Anakin. Palpatine tells Anakin the story of Darth Plagueis the Wise, which boasts about Dark Side capabilities that can save lives. Later, Palpatine reveals himself to be a Dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Sidious.

Anakin threatens to tell the Jedi Council, but Palpatine warns that if the Jedi kill him, Anakin will never be able to save Padme. Anakin informs the Senate that Palpatine is a Sith Lord convinced the Jedi would not immediately kill him, and the Jedi pursue him. As Master Mace Windu comes to arrest Palpatine, he says Palpatine is too dangerous to be allowed to live. Anakin saves Palpatine by cutting off Mace Windu’s hand.

Palpatine promises to train Anakin as his apprentice and gives him the name of Darth Vader. To his dismay, Obi-Wan discovers it was Anakin that killed the Jedi, including the younglings, at the Jedi Temple. Obi-Wan informs Padme, who doesn’t believe him. Padme later flees to reunite with Anakin without knowing that Obi-Wan had snuck into her ship.

Anakin chokes Padme to near death after seeing Obi-Wan, thinking her an accomplice to his old master. Anakin fights Obi-Wan, but Obi-Wan gains high-ground advantage to overpower his young and overconfident former Padawan. Palpatine saves Anakin after Obi-Wan leaves him for dead, taking only his lightsaber.

Obi-Wan brings Padme to the nearest planet of Polis Massa where she could receive medical treatment. However, Padme dies after birthing Luke and Leia. Bail Organa takes Leia, and Obi-Wan takes Luke to the Skywalker Lars family on Tatooine for safety.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

In Rogue One, which we think should be part of the Skywalker Saga, we learn of the stories of Jyn Erso, Galen Erso, and Cassian Andor right before A New Hope begins in 0 BBY. The Death Star was architected by Galen Erso, who secretly designed a vulnerability once he realized what the weapon would be used for. He fled the Empire with his family, hiding in a small planet in the outer rim.

But the Imperial Army would find him to force him to finish overseeing the construction of the Death Star. When he refuses, his wife Lyra is executed but his daughter, Jyn, escapes. Imperial Director Orson Krennic would conscript Galen into slavery.

Years later, the Rebel Alliance discovers more information about the Death Star, including the existence of a design flaw built into the machine that could destroy it. They free Jyn to use her to meet with Saw Gerrera who might be able to get to Galen easier under the guise of wanting to free him, but Cassian Andor is ordered to execute Galen regardless.

They reach Gerrera, who shows them Galen’s message, which discloses and confirms the Death Star’s weakness. At the Imperial research center, Jyn finds her father, who dies in her arms. Back at the Rebel headquarters, Jyn offers to take a small squad to steal the Death Star plans but is rejected, the mission deemed too dangerous. Jyn decides that if she must, she will go at it alone to fulfill her father’s wish and save the galaxy.

Cassian, K-2SO, and others volunteer to go with her, having given everything to the cause they fight for. The Rebels receive the blueprints from Jyn and Cassian, who sacrifice themselves together to ensure the Rebels have what they need to destroy the Death Star. When Princess Leia receives the plans, she calls it the “hope” of the galaxy.

Star Wars: IV A New Hope

In A New Hope, set in 0 BBY, the story opens with Princess Leia being chased down by Darth Vader and an Imperial Star Destroyer. She is flying home with the stolen plans that were delivered to her at the Battle of Scariff. Before being discovered, Leia composes a message for Obi-Wan with the assistance of R2-D2. R2 and C-3PO flee to Tatooine to deliver the message while Leia is captured.

Owen Lars, a moisture farmer on Tatooine, purchases the droids, and Luke discovers the hologram message. Luke learns that his neighbor Ben Kenobi is the Obi-Wan referenced in the message. Obi-Wan attempts to convince Luke to accompany him to Alderaan, but Luke is hesitant as he knows how much his uncle Lars and aunt Beru depend on him.

However, stormtroopers raid Luke’s home and kill his aunt and uncle, leaving their remains behind. Luke decides to join Obi-Wan and travel to Mos Eisley. At the cantina there, they employ Han Solo and Chewbacca to transport them to Alderaan. As Han and Luke disguise themselves as Stormtroopers, the Millennium Falcon is confiscated by the Death Star.

Han and Luke search for Leia and get separated. When they reunite, they watch in horror as Obi-Wan is seemingly killed by Darth Vader. The band of rebels escapes capture and joins the Rebel Alliance. The Rebels put in motion the plan to destroy the Death Star using the weakness that Galen Erso designed into it.

Luke, aided by the Force and Obi-Wan, is able to shoot into the exhaust port of the Death Star, causing it to explode, just as the situation appears hopeless for the Rebels.

Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back (Episode V)

In The Empire Strikes Back, which takes place a few years after the events of A New Hope, the Rebel Alliance has established a base on the planet Hoth. Luke investigates what he believes to be a meteorite but discovers it to be a probe, leading him back to the base where he sees the Force Ghost of Obi-Wan Kenobi, who tells him to go train with Master Yoda on Dagobah. As the Imperial Forces attack Hoth, Han, Leia, and the rest of the team escape on the Millennium Falcon, while Luke and R2-D2 depart for Dagobah instead of the Rebel rendezvous point.

After landing on Dagobah, Luke meets Master Yoda, who helps him develop his Force powers. Meanwhile, Darth Vader learns of a new threat to the Empire and discovers that Luke is his son. Vader wonders if he can turn Luke to the Dark Side.

Han and the gang arrive at Cloud City and meet Lando Calrissian, who betrays them to the Empire in an attempt to save his people. Luke senses his friends are in danger and cuts his training short, leaving Dagobah. While Luke is on his way, Boba Fett captures Han and takes him to Jabba the Hutt as a bounty. On Cloud City, Luke confronts Darth Vader and duels with him, resulting in Vader cutting off Luke’s hand and revealing himself to be Anakin Skywalker, Luke’s father.

Luke refuses to believe Vader’s claim and throws himself into a shaft that leads to the open sky. He manages to call out to Leia, who hears him through the Force, and she and Han rescue him.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi (Episode VIII)

In The Last Jedi, immediately following the events of The Force Awakens, General Leia Organa leads the Resistance in fleeing the Resistance Base on D’Qar once the First Order arrives. Commander Poe Dameron’s costly counterattack destroys a First Order dreadnought against Leia’s orders. The Resistance barely escapes into hyperspace. Believing to be safe within hyperspace, Leia takes a moment to grieve her husband’s death privately. But the First Order has tracked them through hyperspace, thought to be impossible.

Kylo Ren faces his master’s increased disappointment. Snoke lashes out at his conflicted apprentice and when Kylo seemingly tries to retaliate, Snoke inflicts him with Force Lightning. Fueled by rage, Ren jumps into his TIE Silencer and engages the fleeing Resistance. However, Ren hesitates to fire after feeling his mother Leia through the Force, but his wingmen explode the bridge, killing most Resistance leaders. Leia uses the Force to save herself.

Rey finds Luke on Ahch-To, but to her dismay, he wants no part of the war that rages on without him. Instead, Luke suggests ending the Jedi once and for all. But R2-D2 convinces him by replaying Leia’s original message to him from so long ago. Luke decides to teach Rey three of the Jedi’s best teachings. Rey and Kylo’s Force connection puzzles both of them.

Kylo tells Rey that Luke feared his growing power with Force. He also tells her that sensing the Dark Side corruption growing in him, Luke almost murdered him. In retaliation, Ben destroyed Luke’s new Jedi Order killing several of his fellow students. Rey doesn’t believe him at first, but they continue to expand upon their strange connection, spending weeks, perhaps months, talking to each other through their bond.

When Luke tells Rey the real truth, she departs Ahch-To convinced that Ben will come back to the Light. Luke, ashamed of himself, decides to burn the Living Tree down, included all the sacred Jedi texts he had collected. But when he hesitates Master Yoda’s Force Ghost shows up and he destroys it all himself. Master Yoda teaches Luke more of his wise lessons.

Rey boards the Supremacy, Snoke’s capital ship. Kylo is there to receive her and take her to Snoke. In an elevator ride, Rey gets frank with him, calling him Ben — reminding him of who he is. Kylo steadies on and presents Rey to Snoke. However, when Snoke tries to break into Rey’s mind hurting her, Ben decides to kill Snoke. Ben Force Pulls the Skywalker Legacy lightsaber to Rey’s hand, slicing Snoke in half, and she joins him in the fight against the remaining guards.

Now alone together, Kylo asks Rey to rule the galaxy together, hoping she has turned to the Dark Side. But she hasn’t and will never join him as long as he’s fully entrenched in darkness. The rejection sends Kylo into a fit of rage. They tug-of-war the Legacy lightsaber tearing it in half as Vice Admiral Holdo slams the Raddus straight into Snoke’s flagship by use of lightspeed, devastating the First Order fleet. Kylo names himself the new Supreme Leader landing on Crait to end the conflict once and for all.

The Resistance attacks the First Order but it proves futile. Luke Force Projects himself to his sister’s location, vowing to stop Ben from destroying all hope for the galaxy. Luke stalls his nephew long enough for the Resistance to evacuate. Finally, Kylo discovers that Luke is a Force projection. Luke, having expended all his life Force energy dies brilliantly as the twin suns of Ahch-To set. Rey takes whatever is left of the Resistance onboard the Falcon. She and Leia sense Luke’s death and promise that the Resistance will rise again.

Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker

Lastly, one year later in 35 ABY, The Rise of Skywalker starts with Rey’s abilities expanded, helped by Leia’s near-completed Jedi training, but she still had a ways to go. It is discovered that Emperor Palpatine, thought to be dead, has used old Sith magic and science to essence transfer into the body of a clone. Kylo Ren obtains a Sith wayfinder to Exegol, one of two made, after the resurrected Emperor Palpatine threatens revenge. Palpatine tells him he created Snoke to rule the First Order and to turn him to the Dark Side. Palpatine introduces the Final Order, a Sith fleet of super laser-equipped Star Destroyers, and orders Kylo to find and kill Rey. But Kylo doesn’t want to kill her, he wants to turn her.

Rey and her friends embark on a journey to find the second wayfinder. In the middle of her search, she meets with Kylo Ren only to find out the truth about her parents. Kylo reveals to her that Rey is his Dyad in the Force. Unable to accept this truth, she escapes. When she finds the Wayfinder, Kylo is there.  They break out into a cat-and-mouse fight over the ruins of the old Death Star. Kylo waits her out, letting her expend all her energy. He aims to conquer her. In that moment, Leia uses the last of her living energy to reach out to her son. Kylo talks to his father Han Solo’s memory. He relinquishes his lightsaber and becomes Ben Solo. As a result, Kylo ends up returning to the light and rushes to aid Rey.

Ben encounters his old comrades, the Knights of Ren, only to find they were never really his knights, they were Palpatine’s.  Rey prepares to give the Emperor what he wants, but she senses Ben.  Her heart is elated to know that he has come to help her, to be with her. Through their intense connection, Rey passes the Skywalker Legacy Lightsaber to Ben, and he destroys the knights one by one. They face Palpatine together, but Palpatine drains a bit of their life energy. He discovers their special bond as a Dyad in the Force and uses it to rejuvenate himself. As Ben tries to stand, Palpatine hurls him into a crevasse.

Rey stands, empowered by those that came before, to destroy the Emperor once and for all but Rey’s own life is consumed by the effort. Ben crawls his way out to return to Rey but finds her lifeless body. He makes the choice to sacrifice himself for the one he loves, fulfilling his grandfather Anakin’s quest. The Resistance defeats the Sith and the majority of the galaxy’s planets revolt against the First Order.
